So Hot Right Now

Wow! Good old Cue  bring us a totally hot pair of uber-sequinned leggings to sex up summer! Victoria Beckham (who else!) wore these to the Spice Girls reunion, but hers were more than likely McQueen (her fave) or Chanel, as she favoured their little sequinned hotpant over summer. In the interest of maintaining their exclusivity (just like their haute-couture- cousins) these babies are available only through SPECIAL ORDER, for $249.You HAVE to see how H-H-Hot the whole Cue summer '07 collection is. It's so ridiculously Chic, you'll be doing a double take!

Scent of Kate

Kate is Smelly

Haven't we endured enough Kate Moss? We sould have gotten over her way back when she was caught snorting chalk off a bathroom floor.  But it seems she's never short of someone willing to give the girl a hand. This time its Coty, the international frangrance company, who are glorifying the mum of one with her very own fragrance; Kate by Kate Moss. Here's hoping the top notes don't have even a hint of Pete Doherty.

High Time

Now that the Wall Street Journal  has put their stamp of approval on women wearing high heels in the work place, we can all stop feeling guilty and get our collection of Bivianos out of the SULO bin.

I mean business! I mean business!

It's frustrating that it required scientific proof, ok maybe not scientific, but academic proof (same thing) to legitimise the wearing of designer heels in the corporate domain.  What a joke. The Wall Street Journal article (from 02.08.07) reports on the footwear of choice of a handful of high powered directors and partners of some of New York's finest firms. Of course they're all wearing heels! They don't want to look like street urchins if they run multi-million dollar businesses!! And after reading all those unecessary paragraphs, their most insightful conclusion for this is 'it feels good to wear high shoes'. Thanks to the Einstein's at Wall Street for that amazing discovery!

Jacqui of all Trades

pretty young thing Model Jacqui Krivitsky is 18. She is the new face of Melbourne Fashion Week.  But wait, there's more.  She is also the accomplished fashion designer of label Jacqui Alexander,  and more over is the youngest designer ever to be picked up by British department store  Harvey Nichols!! All these accolades at such a young age means only one thing; great expectations!

See what all the fuss is about; have a look at  www.jacquialexander.com.au.

Camilla and Marc

camilla and marc
Camilla and Marc   have aquired a new international stockist. Not just any stockist mind you, but net-a-porter.com.  This little venture sees their label hit the global market in one fell swoop! Sitting alongside Australian compatriots Sass and Bide and 18th Ammendment, the duo have secured their spot on one of the leading online super-boutiques. Congratulations! The Autumn range will be the first collection available through the site. Check out the fashion-scoop interview with Camilla and Marc  here.

Scarface

katie katie katie
It's Kate again. This time it's the hairstyle. We saw it first on Gwen Stefani, referencing Michelle Pfeiffer in Scarfaceand now its Kate and she's platinum! If any fashion house suited the gaudy 80's styling of Elvira, it woud be Versace.  Its quite the match, as the Verscae silhouette is always a throw back to their hayday, when Gianni headed the mast and cemented the look. Coincidentally Gwen had no idea Kate Moss would be walking down this style path when she defined her interpretation of the look as  "rich coke whore."

Jeanious

rainbow selection Q: What do you get when you cross Pucci  with Seven For All Mankind?

A: Really bold, pricey jeans, that's what.

The collaboration is a one-off limited edition venture designed by Matthew Williamson, who heads the creative team at Pucci, and manufactured by Seven. Only 2000 pieces were made, so the $400 US price tag guarantees you a piece of history. A timeless black pair is our recommendation.

SuperCelebrity

ice cold
Celebrities are the new supermodels. The proof is in the advertising. Scarlett Johansson for Louis Vuitton,  Sienna Miller for Top Shop, Mischa Barton for Iceberg (note the sequin legging), Jessica Alba for Revlon, Rebecca Romjin for Bebe (USA) and more signed each day, celebs are slowly replacing the function of the super model. The term super-celebrity is far more appropriate since its not unusual for a TV personality to be a singer, actress, designer and face of a brand- its a question of how well. Of course, the chosen celebrities are still very marketable and easy on the eye. I'll start to worry if they ever replace Gisele for Kirstie Alley on the Victoria's Secret  runway... on second thought models can never be made totally obsolete.

Twenty8Twelve

Sienna Miller and fashion designer sister Savannah have launched their fashion label  Twenty8Twelve  in the UK and US. Twenty8Twelve refers to Sienna's birthdate, and combines the creative direction of Sienna, with the practical skills of Savannah. The debut range titled 'An anthology of Rebellion' will be available exclusively in the US at Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman and in the UK through Harvey Nichols, Matches and the Twenty8Twelve store set to open in september. Thankfully the  look has matured beyond Sienna's boho days, with the pieces resembling a collection of tailored classics with modern detailing.

Check out the selected pieces stocked on asos.com.  This is the only way for Sienna fans to access the collection in Oz!

There's no other store like...

David Jones  kicked off the great department store war with a lavish parade at the Royal Hall of Industries, styled around the French Riviera theme that has proved popular of late. The parade brought together a handful of our greatest modelling treasures; Megan Gale, Catherine McNeill, Nicole Trunfio, Cheyenne Tozzi and Kristy Hinze. Elyse Taylor represented the youth as the ambassador for young designers. Newcomers to the David Jones family were the much anticipated Ginger and Smart as well as Anna Thomas.   The fashion stakes were set extremely high, with DJ's setting the benchmark for a breezy, resort inspired summer season of super-chic elegance.

My store

Myer  transformed the Carriage works at Redfern into a fashion kaleidoscope for their spring/summer extravaganza! New aquisitions to the Myer portfolio helped to lift the  standard and give DJ's some stiff competition. Not to be outdone, Myer also flew in some Australian talent exclusivley for their parade; Alexandra Agoston  fresh from the Dior 60th anniversary runway show, and Josh Goot who came from his new base New York to oversee his pieces on the runway.

With new labels such as red-hot Yeojin Bae, Nevenka and lust-worthy Sretsis  walking the 35m runway, Myer closed the store wars with an almighty BANG!

Stay tuned for a break down of the strongest looks for summer- brought to you with a bit of friendly competition by David Jones and Myer.

To the max!

Leona Edmiston! The maxi-dress made an appearance on both runways with Willow, Zimmermann and Leona Edmiston  putting their spin on the vintage remake. Leona's ruffled and tiered version at Myer, reminiscent of Chanel haute couture, was soft and feminine while Zimmermann gave us a St Tropez-worthy take on the trend, and Willow's electric blue number closed the show with a punch!

The maxi-dress is definitely an investment for the summer months. Patterened or solid, it can be paired with the summer shoe de jour, the platform sandal or over bathers with a fantastic pair of thongs. Plus its a whole oufit in one easy-to-wear piece. Max style with minimum effort, what could be more convenient?

Summer in Brief

Secret Weapon: David Jones presented luxury lingerie as an insight into the art of being immaculately dressed. The sentiment urged us not to forget to coordinate our under layers, no matter how brief. Sass and Bide  sent these saucy knickers down the runway- a hint that summer marks a skimpy season in fashion.

It's what's on inside that counts.

Sport Luxe

sexy-sporty Josh Goot
Josh Goot  was among a host of designers to represent the trend towards sport-luxe. Trapeze dresses, leggings, zips, voluminous shapes and breezy silhouettes are key elements of the trend. King of jersey, Josh Goot used colours for the season, acid bright tangerine and electric blue, to inject fun and energy into the clean aesthetic.
The key to wearing this look successfully is to pair it back with ankle boots or chunky heels and accessorise with metallic accents to max-out the luxury aspect and minimise the sport. The look can be layered successfully by selecting fine gauge knit pieces. Country Road  are also pushing this look for summer; perfect for mixing affordable basics  with designer stand outs.

Magical news

More on celebrity brand endorsements. Emma Watson is rumoured to be the new face of Chanel!   At the moment it's mostly speculative; the rumour started when observant fashionistas noticed that Emma, who plays Hermione Granger was wearing Chanel exclusively at EVERY press event for the new Harry Potter film. Now she has been signed to Storm  Model Management, which is fairly coincidental considering a modelling agent is exactly what she needs in order to seal the Chanel deal. The agency represents Kate Moss, Eva Herzigova and Lily Cole among others, so Emma couldn't be represented by a better agency. And Storm wouldn't sign an actress if not for a worthwhile reason. When it comes to fruition, you heard it here first.

Stay cool, go green

It's so cool to be green right now they're dubbing it the new black.  The Ksubi boys know a thing or two about being cool (and about being green) so they have taken what they know and manifested it into these super-cute sad earth tees. They send the t-shirts out to bands and celebs who endorse them and promote the sale of the shirts world wide. The t-shirts are made from organic cotton and 20% goes towards developng carbon neutral strategies. First stop t-shirts, next stop a full collection made entirely from organic fabrics which Barneys  in the US have locked exclusively. Who said bad-boys don't have a heart.

Dyeing for shade

Europe and the US are geared up for a very shadey winter season. Dip dye is the winter fabric technique de rigueur. The result is soft and subtle and plays on gradients of one colour or a transition from one colour to another. A few truly brave designers even dared to try ressurecting tie dye over autumn. While the new interpretation was certainly an improvement on early 90's hyper-colour finishes, the woodstock stigma still proved too strong. As cute as their  satchels  were, even Miu Miu couldn't resurrect the fad, and select styles  from the tie dyed range have hit the sale table of  US and European department stores. Our ombre mantra: the more subtle the gradient, the more timeless the piece.

Kustaa Saksi

Finnish illustrator Kustaa Saksi has worked on international fashion, music and entertainment projects. His  client list includes Playboy, Wallpaper, Sleazenation, Citroen, Issey Miyake and Diesel and his newest client is the least expected. J-Lo has commissioned the work of Saksi for the runway debut of her spring fashion line  justsweet . The pop-up  invitation   to the september 11 show scheduled for New York fashion week features an artwork of a leafy tree inhabited by birds and hung with raindrops, a specially designed piece that will tie back with the shows set. In collaboration wth another designer, the artworks for the set have been styled around a theme of modern fairy tales. Too cute! and not nearly ghetto enough for J-Lo!!
We can't wait to see his next fashion venture in collaboration with Levi's that will launch next year.
